Shataaksi Dahal is granted AHA Pre-doctoral Fellowship

Shataakshi Dahal, a Ph.D Candidate student in Applied Biomedical Engineering was awarded the American Heart Association pre-doctoral fellowship. Her research is titled: Stem Cell Derivatives for Regenerative Repair of Small AAAs. The fellowship will fund the project for two years and awards her with $53,688.

Shataaksi DahalAmerican Heart Association (AHA) pre-doctoral fellowship is a nationwide fellowship awarded to strengthen research and clinical training of promising full time students working towards their doctoral degree (PhD, MD or equivalent clinical health science doctoral degree program) seeking research training with a sponsor and intended to pursue their career as scientists, physician-scientists or other clinician-scientist with a common goal of improving global cardiovascular health. Award duration ranges from one to two years and the amount matches the NIH scale for predoctoral fellows. Annual stipend is $23,844 plus $1000 per year for health insurance and an additional $2000 per year for project support which can include travel, computer, equipment, etc.). Hence, the total amount ranges from $26,844 to $53,688. The funding is limited and only 30 to 35% of the application is funded each year.
