Over the past year, we have worked to build a team with the skills, expertise and passion to meet the needs of our students and the campus community in this newly created division which brings together the former divisions of Student Affairs and University Engagement. We’re excited to announce the new directors in the Division of Campus Engagement, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leadership Team.

Ali Martin Scoufield
Assistant Vice President, Campus Engagement and Dean of Students 
Ali Martin Scoufield is a first generation college student from Houston, Texas. In her role, Ali oversees departments seeking to remove barriers to students’ education while supporting basic needs access, engagement, and wellbeing. She is also a second year doctoral student in CSU’s Urban Education Policy program, focusing on intersections between trauma, policy, and students with disabilities.

linwoodLinwood Whitten, PhD
Inaugural Assistant Vice President, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Dr. Linwood B. Whitten (he/him/his) serves as the inaugural Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to provide leadership, management and coordination of centralized operations to strengthen and sustain comprehensive institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Prior to joining Cleveland State University, Dr. Whitten served as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management while simultaneously serving as Director of Diversity and International Affairs, as well as Title IX Coordinator at Alabama State University

lajuanLaJuan Flores
Director and Title IX Coordinator, Office for Institutional Equity (OIE)
LaJuan Flores was promoted to Director and Title IX Coordinator in the Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) where she was previously the Associate Director. She is responsible for overseeing the University’s compliance with federal and state laws pertaining to harassment and discrimination. One of the most important functions of her role is to engage with students, faculty and staff to provide investigation, education and support.

kimKimberly Springer
Director, Campus Engagement
 A Cleveland native, she received her undergraduate degree in history with a minor in international affairs from Tuskegee University and completed a master's degree in adult learning and development from Cleveland State University. She is passionate about several social justice issues and how to build coalitions across communities and is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

samanthaSamantha Broaddus
Assistant Director, Campus Engagement
Samantha Broaddus is the Assistant Director for Campus Engagement in the Center for Student Involvement.  In her role, she is responsible for creating programming, initiatives and events, managing student organizations, collaborating with campus and community partners and advising the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC).  Prior to her current role, Samantha served as a Senior Admissions Counselor and a Graduation Success Coach at Cleveland State University.  

evieEvie DuVernay
Assistant Director, Mareyjoyce Green Women’s Center
Evie DuVernay (she/they) serves as the Assistant Director of the Mareyjoyce Green Women’s Center. Evie is responsible for leading the work of the Women’s Center on campus to increase gender equity and inclusion through advocacy, programs, services, and resources. Evie also serves as Adjunct Faculty in the Women & Gender Studies Department. Just prior to joining Cleveland State, Evie served as the Director of Look Up To Cleveland at the Cleveland Leadership Center.

kathyKatherine Myles, DNP, ENL-BC
Interim Director and Clinical Operations Manager
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Katherine's educational background stems from South University which includes a Doctor of Nursing Practice specializing in Leadership,  two Masters of Science – one in nursing specializing in Nurse Administration, and the other specializing in Nurse Education. Additionally, she has a Master of Nursing specializing in Adult-gerontology nurse practitioner. Before joining Cleveland State University, Katherine worked in the greater Cleveland area as a Community Health Nurse. Her passion for education and community health is the driving force behind her motivation and commitment to nursing. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family.

brittanyBrittany Sommers, PhD
Director, Counseling Center
Brittany Sommers, PhD is the Director of CSU's Counseling Center. Her clinical interests include disability justice, eating disorders, identity development, nonsuicidal self-injury, sexual concerns, and trauma. She completed her doctoral internship at CSU in 2017 and then gladly rejoined the team in 2018.


brandonBrandon Thompson
Director, Veteran and Military Success Center
Brandon is responsible for supporting our veteran and military-connected community as they pursue their higher education goals and his philosophy for accomplishing this is to provide and connect those students to any resources they need while fostering a sense of community, belonging, and inclusivity. Brandon served 8 years on active duty as a member of the Air Force Security Forces and is a two-time graduate of Cleveland State.

haasDavid Haas
Coordinator, Community Standards and Advocacy
David manages student code of conduct violations, facilitates the academic integrity process, serves on CARE team, and supports mediation, prevention, and outreach efforts using restorative practices. Prior to joining Cleveland State University in April 2022, David served as a Residence Hall Director at Kent State University.


deborahDeborah Fitzpatrick
CARE Manager
As a CARE Manager, Deborah collaborates with students to work through various things they may be dealing with on campus or at home and assist them with connecting to other resources that offer support to ensure their success. She looks forward to being able to collaborate with and provide support and resources to those in need!


georgeGeorge William Whitfield 
CARE Manager
George is a 2009 CSU alumnus, who serves as a CARE Manager. He is responsible for providing holistic support to members of the CSU community, connecting students with resources on and off campus, and increasing collaboration between campus partners. George is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
