Division of University Engagement

A Message from the Vice President of University Engagement & Chief Diversity Officer

Dr. Stinnett Picture.jpg“In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men/women are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be.”

These words spoken by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., scholar and civil rights and social justice advocate, hold profound significance to me and are the foundation of what I believe the work of our division is all about. The Division of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement is committed to institutional and community diversity, equity and inclusion.

I come to CSU having served as a Dean of Students, and as Chair of the World Leadership Program, a White House Initiative under President Obama’s administration. These experiences broadened my perspective and worldview of diversity, equity and inclusion in institutional, local, and global contexts. They also gave me the tools and experience needed to engage diverse student populations in the meaningful work of inclusion and multiculturalism in our campus and beyond.
It is my pleasure and privilege to serve as the Vice President for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement here at Cleveland State University. Please feel free to contact me or any member of my staff if we can be of service. Our number one priority is to serve and support students, faculty, staff and our community to ensure we can all reach our full potential in a safe, affirming, and inclusive environment.
All the best,
Dr. Maurice Stinnett
