School of Film & Media Arts, Phase 1+2

Film Studio Rendering

Scope of Work:  Ohio’s first standalone film school will prepare tomorrow’s filmmakers for success by helping them hone their skills as they create original film and media content.  The 39,394 GSF facility will be located on the six floor of the Idea Center at Playhouse Square.  This new state-of-the-art facility will provide a more inviting and contemporary environment to attract new students and fulfill the educational mission.

The current project cost is $7.5 million provided through a state capital funds request for fiscal year 2017 included in Senate Bill SB 310. The current anticipated Phase 1 and Phase 2 construction cost is $4,676,625. Phase 1 consists of an enabling project to complete interior demolition of the 6th floor as well as the construction of the (2) raised roof studio shell spaces. Phase 2 construction includes the initial built-out of the 6th floor to support the Film School for the start of the 2018 Fall Semester.  The School is currently seeking additional funding to complete a 75-person screening room, foley/ scoring/ ADR recording studio, upgraded and enhanced audio/ video-editing suites, wardrobe rooms, green room, hair and makeup room and a multi-purpose editing/ mixing studio. The project has been designed to allow for future phased construction of these needs over time as funding is available.
