Continuing Education

Definition

Cleveland State University defines continuing education as any unit of teaching outside or beyond courses approved via faculty governance processes and published in university undergraduate or graduate catalogs.

Continuing Education encompasses but is not limited to instruction delivered in-person, online (synchronously or asynchronously), or in hybrid fashion related to short programs, professional development, non-credit certificates or credentials, workforce development, micro-learning events, executive leadership (in any professional discipline), contracted professional development services, and all other knowledge-transfer and training programs.

Continuing education courses may or may not offer CEUs.

College fiscal officers/managers and CE administrators are responsible for making sure all programs that fall under the adopted definition of CE are managed in accordance with established processes or policies at the university.
