Application Guidelines for Doctoral Programs in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Herbal Medicine

Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at Cleveland State University (CSU-CI) offers doctoral programs in traditional Chinese medicine (DAOM) and Chinese herbal medicine (PhD in Pharmacology).

I. Admission Criteria

1. Non-Chinese Citizen.
2. Holder of one of the following degree MD, DO, Lac, OMP, DPT, MS/MA, or BS/BA degree with six years of working experience in Chinese medicine related field.
3. Candidate for any fellowship program shall be interviewed by the universities and the sponsor.

II. Application Due Dates

Applications should be submitted before September 15th every year and are valid only for the year of submission.

III. Application Documents and Fee

2. Notarized copies of highest academic degree certificate or diploma, transcript, and professional license (if applicable).
3. Copy of passport.
4. Two letters of recommendation by professors or scholars.
5. $150 non-refundable processing fee.

IV. Education Systems and Duration

The minimum length of time to complete a doctoral program is three years. Dissertation proposal, clinical training and dissertation defense shall be completed in NJUCM. The studying period in NJUCM shall be no less than three months. Dissertation research and clinical project shall be conducted under supervisor’s instructions.

V. Degree Awarded

Class instructions are offered in Chinese or English. After completing all the required courses and dissertation, in accordance with the Academic Degree Regulations of PRC, students will be awarded doctoral degree by NJUCM.

VI. Fellowship

Each year, there are five full fellowships sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters are available to the most qualified applicants, which covers tuition, room and board, textbooks, accident and medical insurance, and once per year round-trip economy class international airfare between your home city and NJUCM.

VII. Tuition and Accomodation

Tuition is payable yearly and covers classroom study, research expenses, advisor fees, and clinical training.

Tuition: 3 years (payable to NJUCM):  RMB 25,000 per student per year

Registration fee:  RMB 1,000 per student per year

Accommodation:  RMB 800 per month (student dormitory)

In addition to above expenses, students will also pay for their own lecture materials, books, medical insurance, travel, etc.

VIIIAdmission

CSU-CI will accept application materials and conduct initial screening/interview. The International Education College (IEC) of NJUCM will evaluate the application documents and make the final admission decision. If acceptance is granted, an “Admission Notice” will be sent to CSU-CI to inform applicant.
