MANY CONGRATULATIONS TO DR. BANKS!

Dr. Banks picture

Dr. Tachelle Banks, Chair of the Department of Teacher Education has been named one of 2016's Ten "Women of Influence" in the CSU Community by the Cleveland State University Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement.  The women were nominated for the award and selected by a committee for their contributions to the betterment of the campus community and assistance to others in their personal and professional development

In addition to this honor- Dr. Banks has also recently been promoted from Associate Professor to Full Professor! What an excellent accomplishment!

(March 2016)

CONGRATULATIONS!

Dr. Anthony Menendez has been named one of two recipients of Cleveland State University College of Education and Human Services (CEHS)'s annual Technology Award.  The CEHS Technology Committee, made up of eight faculty and staff and one student across four CEHS departments; the Center for Educational Technologies; the Education Student Services Center; the Dean’s Office; and Information Services and Technology, selected winners based on innovative use of technology between Spring 2015 and Fall 2016.

Dr. Menendez, an assistant professor in the Teacher Education Department and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (BCBA-D) and Certified Ohio Behavior Analyst (COBA), developed a road map to teach both undergraduate (Course No. ESE 411) and graduate (Course No. ESE 511) students to graph academic and/or behavioral data using Microsoft Excel versus the traditional hand-drawn method of graphing.

In order to implement the technology, Dr. Menendez recorded a step-by-step video demonstration of the Excel graphing method in the Cleveland State studio.  He supplemented that video with a Word Document that students could download and utilize while viewing.  Dr. Menendez was able to assess his students in the special education content area via a graphing assignment within Taskstream.  The digital video task analysis served to gauge the ability of graduate students in the visual representation and analysis of graphed numerical data.

Excellent work Dr. Menendez!

January 2016:
The ESL Program is proud to announce that it has received a 4-year accreditation renewal from the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA), an accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education! Congratulations!

Congratulations, Dr. Jim Moore!
Dr. Jim Moore, an associate professor of social studies education in Cleveland State University’s Teacher Education Department, has been named the 2014-15 Cleveland State Non-Disciplined Faculty Mentor of the Year.  Dr. Moore was presented with an engraved silver-plated mug to commemorate the accomplishment. The award is on behalf of the McNair Scholars Program which supports undergraduate students’ scholarly activities throughout the academic year and summer.

Dr. Moore was recognized for his work this year mentoring Michael Keller, a science and mathematics major.  “Mike is an excellent student,” said Dr. Moore.  “It was an honor to mentor him.”

The two first met when Keller was a student in a diversity class taught by Dr. Moore.  During the year, Dr. Moore met with Keller once per month with the goal of preparing Keller for graduate school.  Since Keller isn’t a social studies education major, Dr. Moore was classified as a non-disciplined mentor.

The McNair Scholars Program is named after Ronald McNair, one of the seven astronauts killed in the Challenger disaster in 1986.

You can learn more about Dr. Moore by checking out his recent Faculty Spotlight here.

Congratulations, Dr. Joanne Goodell!

Goodell

Dr. Joanne Goodell, Professor in Cleveland State University’s Department of Teacher Education since 1999, has been selected to be an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow for the 2015 – 2016 academic year. The ACE Fellows Program, established in 1965, is designed to strengthen institutions and leadership in American higher education by identifying and preparing emerging leaders for senior positions in college and university administration. Forty-seven Fellows, nominated by the senior administration of their institutions, were selected this year following a rigorous application process.

Teacher Education congratulates Joanne and celebrates her breadth of service to the department, college and the greater University.
