Signature Clinical Educator Preparation Programs

Clinical educator preparation programs provide early practical experiences that support the professional development of prospective candidates. Candidates participate in a strengthened curriculum and more than 700 hours of clinical experience, bridging the gap between theory and practice.

Fully Accredited Educator Preparation Programs


All undergraduate licensure programs are recognized by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and their respective Specialized Professional Association (SPA).


STEM and Humanities programs


A unique university-based secondary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and Humanities (English/Language Arts, Social Studies and Foreign Language) educator preparation program that provides early and intensive clinical experiences to promote candidate self-efficacy and build stronger connections between theory and practice.

Student Supports


Teacher Education faculty and staff are committed to increasing the number of students who successfully complete our degree and licensure programs. Extended faculty office hours, timely responses to student concerns and additional advising services are a few ways we have enhanced our supports for students. There has also been the recent addition of a student resource room located in JH 334 which is supplied with course textbooks for student use.

Faculty in Residence

Cleveland State University (CSU) has committed personnel and resources to actualize a reciprocal, professional, and collaborative partnership with both Campus International School (CIS) and MC2STEM High School. CSU provides Faculty in Residence professors from the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) who work in CIS and MC2STEM schools. Faculty in Residence professors are intended to be of support for the CMSD students, teachers, and administrators. The partnership also supports COEHS prospective teacher candidates through professional learning and school-based projects. The faculty in residence is expected to leverage their expertise to realize the transformative partnership.

Professional Partnerships


Serves both pre-service teachers and area districts' students and teachers, by providing quality field experiences for future teachers in the classrooms of experienced mentor teachers.


Community Learning Center


The Community Learning Center for Children and Youth (CLC) provides an engaged-learning experience for students at Cleveland State while serving the community by offering free assessment and tutoring programs for children at the elementary and middle-school grade levels who have difficulties with reading, math, or learning in general.

STEM Center

The STEMM Education Center provides a mechanism for connecting the STEMM education efforts across campus in one location, not as a gatekeeper, but as a place to connect and collaborate across the colleges, disciplines, as well as with K-12 partnerships and other STEM entities. The STEMM Education Center provides professional development to K-12 schools around STEM Education and Project Based Instruction. On CSU’s campus the STEMM Education Center provides grant writing support, evaluation and coordination support for STEM Education grants and instructional support for faculty who are interested in improving their instruction.

Math Corps

The Math Corps stands on the belief that all children have a unique and special greatness within them, and that through hard work, a commitment to excellence, and a dedication to learning, combined with the support of a caring community, this greatness can be realized. It is the mission of the Math Corps, using mathematics as its tool, to help as many children in the greater Cleveland area as possible realize their own particular greatness. Math Corp is a summer program for middle and high school students interested in improving their mathematics confidence and knowledge.

Teacher Education faculty are knowledgeable and experienced professionals. They are experts in their respective disciplines are committed to bridging the gap between theory and practice and preparing high quality educators.

Multicultural Learning and Teaching International Journal

Multicultural Learning and Teaching, a De Gruyter publicationis now housed in CoEHS, Department of Teacher Education. Multicultural Learning and Teaching (MLT) is a multidisciplinary international journal that explores the education of people from diverse multicultural backgrounds in a variety of learning environments, inside and outside the classroom.

The Cleveland State University Model for Teacher Education is conceptualized as "The Teacher as a Reflective, Responsive Professional - A Partner in Learning."  The Department of Teacher Education offers 7 fully accredited undergraduate, 8 graduate licensure and degree programs. We offer 7 certificate and endorsement programs. Our preparation programs are well designed for prospective and experienced educators. Teacher Education faculty are fully engaged in teaching, research and service that informs the quality preparation of our candidates across programs.
