Dr. Aime Black

Dr Amie Black

Dr. Black is currently an independent education consultant, instructional designer, senior project manager, and Cleveland State University teacher education instructor. Dr. Black’s expertise spans culture-based education, English language development, STEM education, professional development, collaborative inquiry for teacher teams, diversity, and military-connected students. Dr. Black has taught eight university course sections in diversity and inquiry approaches to teaching in STEM and the humanities, with more than 90 presentations and sessions to school districts, community organizations, universities, and conferences. Dr. Black is certified in Cross-Cultural, Language, and Academic Development and Guided Language Acquisition Design, and has served as a classroom teacher, curriculum specialist, and instructional coach for K-12 content area teachers for more than 12 years in four different California localities with high percentages of underserved students. After gaining deep knowledge of the California education system through teaching elementary and middle school, then in leadership positions at the Orange County Department of Education serving 27 school districts, Dr. Black expanded her education reach to the Pacific islands (Guam, Yap, Palau, Saipan, and Hawaii), Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and Japan. Dr. Black also conducted research and provided technical assistance under the IES-funded REL Pacific in the areas of culturally responsive practice, family and community engagement, STEM programming (e.g., PBL), data use, and teacher and leadership development in California and throughout the Pacific islands and Hawaii where she served a critical role in rebuilding severed partnerships through responsive and meaningful delivery of services. She has more than 20 years of participation and leadership in military environments in the United States (mainland and Hawaii), New Zealand, and Japan, and is well-versed in military culture and language, having facilitated the academic, career, and life outcomes of military-connected students, spouses, and service members through teaching and advising. Dr. Black currently leads eight teams of curriculum developers and manages 74 course revision teams for 74 online courses for the Colorado State University - Global Campus.
