Culturally Responsive Instruction
Course Overview
Culturally Responsive Instruction will provide in-service teachers and school leaders an opportunity to learn and implement strategies for authentic professional critical reflection of cultures, power, privilege, differences, and prejudices, and ways to meaningfully integrate culturally responsive instruction, using student cultures and learning modalities to select and apply strategies and resources that ensure high-quality teaching and learning experiences for all students, but especially students with varying backgrounds of knowledge, readiness, language, interest, and learning styles. This course will enable educators to foster positive student engagement and improve student outcomes, in any classroom
Objectives:
• The big picture of culturally responsive instruction.
• Theories and concepts that define culturally responsive instruction.
• Instructional models and theories that support the needs of diverse learners.
• Assessment strategies that help to meet the needs of all learners
Requirements
Successful course completion includes: 10 evidence of successful completion of professional critical reflection activities and 2) completed action research plan, integrating culturally responsive instruction into daily professional practice.
