Gary McPherson is the new coordinator for the MUST STEM Fellows Recruitment /Induction Program
Are you seeking a fulfilling career that allows you to share your knowledge of math and science? Then Gary McPherson, M.Ed., is looking for you. McPherson is the new coordinator for the MUST STEM Fellows Recruitment/Induction Program.
In his position, McPherson recruits students interested in pursuing science and/or math teaching licensure through the Master of Urban Secondary Teaching – MUST – Program. He also coordinates the program’s communication and marketing processes. McPherson will represent the program to students from first recruitment contact to enrollment. He also will provide induction and mentoring services for graduates during their first two years of teaching. McPherson sees this aspect of his job as a vital component of the program.
Another very important strength of the program, McPherson adds, is the emphasis placed on social justice and preparation of Fellows to teach in urban environments.
McPherson is looking forward to building and nurturing long-lasting relationships and collaborations with stakeholders from multiple venues within the community who can serve as sources for identifying potential STEM Fellows. McPherson has nurtured plenty of valuable relationships during his 14 years in education. He taught high school social studies in Akron, Ohio before becoming a principal at a middle school in Massillon, Ohio.
McPherson earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Kent State University and later a master’s degree with certification from the University of Akron. In addition, he completed principal and superintendent licensure programs at Ashland University. In McPherson’s spare time, he enjoys cycling with his family on Ohio’s many trails and back roads.
