A Proud History

USAAFToday over 500 military veterans and those currently serving within the Guard and Reserve attend Cleveland State University.

Established in 1964, Cleveland State University traces its lineage to Fenn College. During World War II, Fenn College was the home of the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) 53th College Training Detachment (CDT). Fenn College was one of over 150 colleges that provided pre-flight training over a three to five month period to future USAAF pilots, navigators and bombardiers. Before it was disbanded near the end of the war, the 53rd CDT provided training to hundreds of aviation cadets who went on to serve in the war.
