Introduction to Grant Writing

Course Description:

An introductory course on the grant writing process. Beginning grant writers will learn how to get started writing successful grant proposals while gaining hands-on experience planning and researching federal, state and local grants with a strong focus on local funding sources and national trends. Developing a viable project plan, identifying and assessing relevant prospects and crafting an initial approach to funders are covered. Students will be immersed in grant writing exercises, practice presenting a case for support and engage in peer review.

This course is for beginning grant writers, anyone interested in integrating grants into their portfolio or earning the Grant Writing Certificate.

Who Should Attend:

This course is for anyone interested in earning the Grant Writing Certificate including staff, administrators, volunteers, board members and consultants at nonprofit organizations, public or private educational institutions and government agencies. For-profit businesses seeking grants to fund research or training are welcome as are individual grant seekers such as artists, filmmakers or journalists.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Plan grant-funded project
  • Find the best prospects for grants
  • Develop successful strategies to secure grant awards
