President and Chief Executive Officer, Diebold, Incorporated

Tom Swidarski is President and Chief Executive Officer, of Diebold, Incorporated. He was elected to Diebold’s board of directors in 2005. In his role as CEO, Tom has built and focused the Diebold leadership team and its employees on five key priorities: increasing customer loyalty; improving product and service quality; strengthening the company’s supply chain; enhancing communications and teamwork; and rebuilding long-term profitability. His charge is to continue building upon the Diebold tradition of customer service and loyalty – which will drive the company’s financial performance and help deliver its obligations to its customers, employees and investors.

Prior to accepting this position in December 2005,Tom served as president and chief operating officer. Previously, he served as senior vice president of the financial self-service group, including strategic development and global marketing, for Diebold. During his tenure as senior vice president, Tom was responsible for analyzing industry trends and leveraging Diebold’s core competencies to ensure proper positioning for future growth. His other duties included strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, R&D, industry assessments, competitive intelligence, marketing research and Diebold positioning.

Prior to joining Diebold in 1996, Tom held various positions in his 16 years in the financial industry focusing on marketing, product management, retail profitability, branding and retail distribution. Tom was a senior executive at PNC Bank in Pittsburgh, serving as vice president and director of consumer marketing from 1985 to 1996. Prior to that, he worked for Ameritrust in Cleveland as a retail analyst from 1980 to 1985.

Tom is on a number of financial industry boards as well as actively involved in the local community. He has also been given the opportunity to speak on self-service banking, payment systems, and related issues worldwide.

Tom received a bachelor’s degree in marketing and management at the University of Dayton in Ohio, and a master’s degree in business management from Cleveland State University. Tom was honored by the CSU College of Business in April 2009 as one of fifteen alumni in the Business Hall of Fame.
