Cameron Tolbert lead his team to a second-place victory at Startup Vikes and made it to the Semi-Finals of Erie Hack in Detroit in June, but the team is not done yet.
When Team Vol formed at Startup Vikes it was the first all business student team to compete and win. Teams typically include students from a variety of different majors across campus including engineering, law and other disciplines.
The initial team included Cameron, an Operations and Supply Chain Management major as lead, and business students Ramon Clayton (Information Systems), Jibreel Gould (Marketing) and Asiri Samasdera (Marketing).
Vol is an app designed to build communities of service in the digital age. A platform designed to align potential volunteers with opportunities, Vol will provide college and millenial aged individuals stressed for time with opportunities that can help them acquire marketable skills or volunteer to make their communities a better place.
In preparation for Erie Hack, Cameron recruited additional team members and plans to keep competing in competitions. Most recently, he participated in Entrepreneurship Immersion Week through the Entrepreneurship Education Consortium.
“Erie Hack is an innovation challenge to find solutions to Lake Erie’s problems,” said Katie Van Dyke, Startup Vikes facilitator and CSU SBDC director. “The contest awards over $100,000 in prizes so we were thrilled that Startup Vikes winners Team Vol made it to the semi-finals.”
“Even though we did not win Erie Hack, our entire journey from Startup Vikes to now has been a wonderful experience,” said Cameron.
