In April 2017, a team of Monte Ahuja College of Business students, led by Dr. Tracy Porter, competed in the Collegiate Leadership Competition (CLC) at John Carrol University. The CLC is a non-profit college leadership program founded in 2015, creates a dynamic practice field where student leaders can apply what they’re learning in a context that stretches them to the boundaries of their leadership knowledge, skills and abilities. The CLC makes leadership a real, tangible experience for the future of corporate and organizational leaders.
"The students represented Cleveland State University, the College of Business and themselves with great professionalism," said Dr. Porter. "I was extremely proud of how they approached each challenge methodically, worked collaboratively and supported each other throughout the process. In fact, they impressed the judges, many of who were professionals with various Cleveland corporations. Several of our students were approached about job and internship opportunities."
Bela Krizanovic, CLC Executive Director said, "Please congratulate your students again for me. I was incredibly impressed with their performance throughout the day and I know that the judges were as well. They mastered the CLC curriculum and I hope that it will serve them well as they continue into the next chapters of their lives."
"I was so touched by your team’s ability to remain positive throughout the day. I saw the remaining eight teams get frustrated at some point on Saturday, but CSU stayed strong," added Director Krizanovic. "Regardless of the hurdles we put in front of your team, they remained gracefully, positive, and determined to win the next challenge. I am sure they will all do great things in the future."
About the Competition:
Each fall, coaches outline the commitment and practice schedule, and then use a variety of techniques to recruit 6 team members. CLC provides team coaches with all of the tools and resources to recruit teams. Practices are held on each college/university’s respective campus from January through April. During this time, participants and coaches learn and practice CLC Terms & Concepts. CLC provides team coaches with all of the tools and resources to plan practice and prepare for the competition.
In April, teams from schools across each region participate in a high-energy, action-filled competition where participants put their knowledge and training to use. Unique activities are designed annually by CLC. The regional competition beings with a welcome reception on Friday evening. This event provides participants with an opportunity share a meal, network, and hear from successful executives.
The competition occurs on Saturday and begins with an all-team meeting, followed by the competition which is a series of activities and challenges. Teams are judged on their process and results.
