Marty Guastella, Vice President, Human Resources for the Oswald Companies and two-time alumnus of the College of Business at Cleveland State University (BBA in Finance and MBA, Human Resources and Labor Relations) was selected for the Business Leadership Award from a group of peers.

The HR Awards program, co-hosted by ERC and Cleveland SHRM, recognizes Northeast Ohio's top HR professionals and students demonstrating excellence in the field of human resource management. Learn more about the HR Awards here.

"I have always felt that good people treated fairly make the difference and provide an organization a significant competitive advantage, but employees need an advocate in leadership to find balance between their needs and the needs of the company. The years I have spent in Executive Recruitment, HR Consulting and HR Leadership have provided numerous tangible examples and confirmed the importance of having someone in leadership serve as both a people advocate and a business leader."

When asked for a piece of advice to give his peers in HR, Marty responded, "Be a business leader, work in partnership to establish and communicate clearly defined cultural expectations then walk the talk. Cultivate an empowered work environment so your people can take you where you want to go, and always remember to be gracious."

Marty was also honored at the Crain's Cleveland Business 2014 Archer Awards for Innovation. To learn more on the Crain's Cleveland Business website here.
