Points of Pride

Kayla Yontz

Kayla YontzKayla Yontz is a recipient of the Parker Hannifin Scholarship, a second year student at Cleveland State University majoring in Management and currently works as a Human Resources Intern for Parker Hannifin.

“Getting the Parker scholarship is what finalized my decision to go to Cleveland State,” Kayla said. “Without it, I would not have had the opportunity to work at Parker which has had a significant impact on my life and future career.”

In January of her first year at CSU, Kayla received an email from Carolyn Rogers at Parker. The email turned into a conversation and then several interviews. She now works closely with Carolyn and other administrators at Parker on project-based work. Currently, she is working on a plan for college recruiting.

“Before my internship at Parker, I had no idea what Human Resources encompassed,” said Kayla. “I enjoyed speaking with the HR managers when I interviewed and now, working with them. They are guiding me in the right direction.”

“I was originally interested in Sports Management, but felt that I had a very narrow focus” added Kayla. “As I looked at the Management major and all it offered, including leadership, I felt it could provide me with a more diverse skill set that I could take into any industry.”

“I am technically a senior because of College Credit Plus,” said Kayla, “The program allowed me to earn college credit in high school. As a result, I am considering a possible double major or adding coursework.”

Kayla is from the Sandusky area, lives near campus and enjoys the downtown campus location. “CSU Is close enough to home, but far enough away and it is exciting to live near downtown Cleveland,” she added.

Kayla volunteers at the Kids in Need Resource Center, an opportunity she discovered through the Viking Corps volunteer organization.

“Working with Cleveland teachers at the Center has been a humbling experience,” she said. “They are so thankful that this is a resource to help their students in need.”
