Dorcia Bolton

Dorcia BoltonDorcia Bolton is currently an Assistant Professor at Auburn University, Montgomery Campus.

While still a Marketing Doctor of Business Administration candidate, she earned the Cleveland State University College of Graduate Studies Graduate Student Awards Program for Excellence in Teaching.

Dorcia was also a 2017 finalist at the Marketing Management Association StuKent Outstanding Teacher-Scholar Doctoral Student Competition held during the Fall Educators’ Conference.

The competition recognizes doctoral students who excel in teaching and scholarship. Three finalists are selected from hundreds of entries from around the globe to give a teaching demonstration at the conference and then they are recognized at the Conference’s Awards Luncheon.

Dorcia presented her teaching philosophy, which is consistent with and grounded in the principles of engaged learning here at CSU.

“I chose CSU because of the flexibility of the DBA program and the accreditation,” she said. “I felt like Cleveland State was that perfect balance between academia and industry.”

During her time as a CSU DBA student, Dorcia was able to be published in the International Journal of Strategic Decision Sciences. She has also presented at the annual conferences of the American Marketing Association, Association of Consumer Research, and the Academy of Marketing Science.

In addition to the Marketing Management Competition, Dorcia received honors from Cleveland State University’s Office of Research and was named a recipient of the 2017-2018 Dissertation Research Award for her topic “The Impact of Customized Price Promotion on Instant Gratification and Functional Impulsivity.” She also received an invitation for publication consideration from the AMS Review for her article “Exploring the Dark Side of Relationship Marketing: A Systematic Review and Implications,” which was submitted under the 2017 Sheth Foundation Doctoral Competition for Conceptual Articles.

Dorcia was also awarded the Fall 2017 Graduate Student Award for Excellent Teaching from the College of Graduate Studies and the Fall 2017 Monte Ahuja Doctor of Business Administration student recognition award for teaching. She was also named an AMS Doctoral Consortium Fellow in 2017.

Dorcia has taught Consumer Behavior (MKT 420) throughout her time here at CSU and has consistently received excellent ratings from the students.

“I love seeing the students transform throughout the semester,” said Dorcia. “Their confidence and conviction in their final presentations is wonderful to see.”

Prior to CSU, Dorcia was the Marketing Manager at the St. Thomas Co-op Credit Union in Jamaica. She holds professional affiliations in the Academy of Marketing Science, American Marketing Association and Society for Marketing Advances.

“I was drawn to marketing because I wanted to learn why people do what they do, I wondered, is marketing that powerful that it can inspire action and determine or prevent behavior,” she added. “Sharing that with students and working with everyone in the Marketing Department has been wonderful.”
