The KeyBank Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) Course provides Cleveland State University students the ability to serve as managers of the $680,000 Vikings Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF).
Both undergraduate and graduate students receive real-world experience in equity research, security selection and portfolio management in a co-working, challenging and collaborative environment. In addition, investment professionals serve as guest speakers providing access to fantastic networking opportunities and potential pathways to internship and career opportunities in the investment field.
In Spring 2017, SMIF students learned about the investment industry in general, equity research, economic analysis, financial modeling and equity valuation in the first half of the semester. Mark Koznarek, a veteran Wall Street Journal All Star equity analyst, served as the professional instructor. Experienced investment professionals from Victory Capital, Cleveland Research, Foundry Partners and many other organizations have joined the class as guest speakers.
SMIF students then move toward full-fledged equity research, based on which they will collectively make the buy and sell decisions for the Student Managed Investment Fund. For more information about the Spring 2017 SMIF class, please find the syllabus and schedule here.
