Juniper Research estimated that the quantity of data stolen by cyber criminals could rise as much as 175% by 2022. High profile data breaches and sophisticated cyber attacks create challenges for every organization. The graduate certificate in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy prepares students to understand the technical and business dimensions and the legal and regulatory framework. Affiliated with the Center for Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection, housed in the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, the certificate takes an interdisciplinary approach to address privacy and risk-management concerns.
Curriculum Overview:
The program consists of six courses. Three required and three electives, one of which must be an experiential learning course or externship. Students can choose electives from the Monte Ahuja College of Business or the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
Required Courses:
- LAW 666 Cybersecurity I
- LAW 746 Cybersecurity II
- LAW 747 Privacy Law and Management
Business Elective Courses:
- IST 636 Managing Network and Security Risk
- IST 656 Advanced Information Security
- IST 693 Information Secuirty Risk Assessment (This course counts as experiential learning requirement.)
Law Elective Courses:
- LAW 665 Computers and the Law
- LAW 690 HIPAA and Privacy
- LAW 702 Electronic Discovery
- LAW 860 Upper Level Writing (Topic and advisor must be approved by the Center for Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection director or co-director.)
Experiential Learning/Externship:
- In lieu of taking IST 693 or LAW 860, students may opt to have an externship in a legal or corporate setting to satisfy the experiential learning component of this certificate.
- The externship must be approved by the Center for Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection Director or Co-Director.
Admission:
- Although the graduate certificate in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy offers course options from both the College of Business and College of Law, admission to the program is managed by the College of Law.
