Women's History Month

Celebrating the Power of CSU Women was held March 1st to kick off Women’s History Month at CSU.  Organized by the Office of University Engagement, the Strong Woman/Strong Leader event celebrated and honored six women who are engaging in leadership and advocacy at Cleveland State University.

The 2018 honorees include an alumna and two current students from the College of Graduate Studies:

  • Arrione Clark is currently in her final year of CSU’s school psychology graduate program. She chose school psychology as a career because she believes the best leaders of today are those who invest in the leaders of tomorrow.
  • Tanesha Hunter earned her master’s in public administration from CSU’s Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs. She works for the Cleveland Department of Aging and is dedicated to ensuring an enhanced quality of life for seniors and adults with disabilities.
  • Erica Wiley Whiteman is a fourth-year doctoral student in the counseling psychology Ph.D. program at CSU. During her tenure on campus she has co-chaired the Student Affiliates of Seventeen and helped reinitiate the Counseling Psychology Doctoral Student Organization.

Counseling Psychology doctoral candidate and honoree, Erica Wiley Whiteman, shared her thoughts on the recognition,“I was honored to be one of the selected recipients through a nomination and review of applications for my leadership work nationally and locally. This recognition was incredibly well timed as I am preparing to leave Cleveland State University this summer to move onto a doctoral level internship at Penn State University. The idea of being a “strong woman and strong leader” had me reflecting on all of my experiences and how I was able to cultivate strengths as a woman and leader over the last few years. I am proud to be at Cleveland State and a small part of all of the strong women on campus.”

Cleveland State University’s Strong Woman, Strong Leader Awards celebrate the contributions of female students and alumni to campus and the broader community.  The awards program serves as an annual opportunity to honor and support Women’s History Month. The 2018 awards ceremony was held Thursday, March 1, 2018.
