Animal Care and Use at Cleveland State University

Proper care, use, and humane treatment of animals used in research, testing, and education require scientific and professional judgment based on knowledge of the needs of the animals and the special requirements of the research, testing, and educational programs.

Cleveland State University (CSU) has established and provides resources for an animal care and use program that is in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, such as the federal Animal Welfare Regulations, or AWRs (CFR 1985), and Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, or PHS Policy (PHS 1996). CSU has an institutional animal care and use committee (IACUC) which was established to oversee and evaluate this program.

The Animal Care Facility Coordinator, is responsible for overseeing the care and use of animals used in research at CSU, and also oversees the facility. Dr. Stan Dannemiller is CSU's consulting veterinarian with training and experience in laboratory animal science and medicine. The Animal Care Facility Coordinator can be reached via email at ospr.csuohio.edu.
