General Education Requirements

Mathematics/Quantitative Literacy

Minimum 6 credits
First course must be completed in the first year or prior to completion of the first 30 hours of coursework.

There are three ways to meet the Mathematics/Quantitative Literacy (QL) requirement:

  1. A student may take two mathematics courses, MTH 116 Foundations of Quantitative Literacy and MTH 117 Mathematical Applications in the Real World.
  2. A student may take two alternate courses offered by the Department of Mathematics and numbered above MTH 117, as specified by their major program. Students should meet with advisers in their college and/or major program to discuss this option.
  3. A student may take a single mathematics course, (MTH 116 Foundations of Quantitative Literacy or suitable substitute), and then complete the QL requirement by taking a QL Continuation course as specified by their major program.
