Operations and Supply Chain Management (B.B.A.)
At-a-Glance

Admission to major: Completion of all College of Business Administration lower-division requirements.

Major: 30-32 credit hours beyond the College Core requirements, of which 23-24 hours are OSM electives, and two additional courses are OSM approved business electives.

Minor: 16 credit hours

Specializations: A student may be a general OSM major or optionally may specialize in one or more of the following areas: supply chain management, global operations management, business analytics, and project management.

Advising: Operations and Supply Chain Management majors are assigned a faculty adviser by the department office.

Student organization: Student Chapter, APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society)

Additional information: Cooperative education and  internship programs with local businesses, and international travel opportunities are available.

Today, without doubt, the crucial need for businesses, competing in the global marketplace to be successful and sustainable, requires competence and expertise in the areas of operations and supply chain management. The operations and supply chain management responsibilities include sourcing, procurement, distribution and transportation, process scheduling and improvement, both within and across companies.The field is rapidly growing with improvement in technology, leading to an expansion in new career opportunities. The goal of the B.B.A major in Operations and Supply Chain Management is to provide students the background needed to become business leaders who will be equipped to solve complex supply chain challenges.

Major-Field Requirements

For students who are -admitted to CSU after Fall 2009, the requirement for a major in Operations and Supply Chain Management is to complete 30-32 credit hours of OSM Major Electives in the College of Business Administration (CBA) beyond the College Core requirements. Students are encouraged to check with the department chair when choosing elective courses.

Students admitted to CSU prior to Fall 2009 must take 20 credit hours of OSM courses beyond the College Core requirements. These courses are designated as OSM major electives.

The OSM program is designed to provide a strong foundation in all aspects of operations management and supply chain management as well as exposure to the analytical tools used in the field. However, for students who want to focus on a specialization, we provide four possible tracks to choose from.

Supply Chain Management. The following list of courses is recommended:

Students should note the prerequisites for all courses. Students taking courses without having fulfilled the proper prerequisites may lose credit and may be required to take additional courses.

Listed below is a suggested schedule for completing the OSM major. OSM 311 Introduction to Operations Management can be taken at an earlier semester as long as the student completes OSM 201.

Minor-Field Requirements

Students obtaining a minor in OSM must satisfy the requirements in levels 1 and 2 below.

Level 1: Any two of the following three courses:

These three courses can be waived based upon proof of prior equivalent course work. Normally, these prior courses should not be taken more than five years before the declaration of the OSM minor.

Level 2: At least 10 credit hours from OSM elective courses (not including OSM 311).

Recommendation

Students minoring in Supply Chain Management should take the following courses:
Level 1: OSM 201, OSM 311
Level 2: Any three or four of the following: OSM 412, OSM 413, OSM 415, OSM 417, OSM 419, OSM 421, OSM 422, OSM 424, OSM 425, OSM 427, OSM 438, OSM 490.
