About this site

This site began as a result of a meeting on March 26, 2002. Several members of the University gathered at the University Center for Teaching and Learning to discuss the implimentation of Section 508 on University internet functions.

This particular website is being generated as a warehouse and test area for information relating to Section 508, and is a work in progress.

The list of Most common CSU Section 508 Website Repair needs was generated by running several of CSU's main websites through Bobby and analysing the results.

Many of CSU's repair needs are simple, such as adding alt tags, or insuring that frames are titled with text that facilitates frame identification and navigation.

As we repair the old sites, we must begin to prepare for the future.
Although many of the new tags, such as FIELDSET are not yet supported by all browsers, web designers should begin to learn to write this code. This will mean learning more about the structure of data tables and forms.

We are also currently looking into products such as LIFT, whic is a Dreamweaver plug-in, that should help us achieve Section 508 compliance. Programs like this may simplify creating section 508 compliant data tables.

We have begun our "good faith effort" to come into compliance. Hopefully, this site will assist you in our effort.
