What's new in the IS&T Computer Labs?

Where can I find a quick scan station? Is there a plotter on campus? Where can I find an iMac? What software is available for me to use?

Ever ask yourself these questions? Well, IS&T has created a web page for each of our General Computer Labs. The webpage will have the building address, a photo of the lab, the hours, the equipment, and all software loaded onto our PC’s. In addition, each page will provide you a link to the Lab Monitor Duties (questions you can ask a lab monitor or help the lab monitor can provide), a link to our Mobile Campus (borrow laptops and iPads for free), and a link to request a print refund should you need to do so.

Please read this important information Find out what is in each IS&T General Computer lab.

OneDrive

Have you ever lost your thumb drive, or left it in a lab. Well, worry no more about losing such things as IS&T is offering students a 1TB cloud drive called OneDrive. To make your lab experience quick and easy, all of our lab machines will default to your OneDrive for your primary storage device. Of course, as before, you can always redirect your storage to your thumb drive. But by default, all of your file activity will be stored on OneDrive. Remember, with OneDrive, you can share files with fellow students if you are working together on a project. You must sign into your Engage365 account using your CSU credentials to access OneDrive.

Upgraded Mac's

You might notice a new set of iMacs in many of IS&T’s General Computer labs. Starting Fall 2014, we’ve upgraded our Macs to the following units:

  • iMac
  • 21.5-inch: 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
  • 8GB (two 4GB) memory
  • 1TB hard drive
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 1GB video memory

Upgraded PCs

This fall, IS&T has moved to a 3-year replacement program for all lab computers. We have replaced 52 computers that were more than 3-year’s old in all of our labs. Also we have replaced 40 of our Thin Clients as well. The new units are HP 800 G1 Towers and are the latest version of these PC’s from HP.

Plotter in Fenn Hall

We’ve added a new plotter in Fenn Hall. The new unit is a Hewlett Packard model T1300 ePrinter capable of printing postscript and HPGL files. It can print documents up to 42 inches wide. The charge for printing is $1.50 per foot of paper which will be charged against your existing Paper Cut account.

Quick Scan Stations

Need to do some document scanning and tired of waiting for someone to finish their homework before you can get access to the scanner? We now have Quick Scan stations in:
  • FT-103
  • SH-128
  • BU-23
  • UR-39
  • UR-40

There is a 5-minute limit on these computers so if you are planning a lot of work, please find another workstation. There is signage to point you to the correct workstation for scanning and the scan station is located close to the lab monitor who will enforce the 5-minute limit.

Quick Print Stations

Sometimes you just need to print something quickly and be off to class. Visit one of our new Quick Print Stations. Our Quick Print stations are located in:

  • FT-103
  • SH-128
  • MC-120 (2 Stations)
  • BU-23
  • UR-39
  • UR-40
  • SC-126

There is a 5-minute limit on these computers so if you are planning a lot of work, please find another workstation. There is signage to point you to the correct workstation for printing and the Quick Print station is located close to the lab monitor who will enforce the 5-minute limit.

Office 2013

We have upgraded all of our lab images for PC’s and Thin Clients to Office 2013. iMacs still run the latest version of Office 2011 for Macs.
