FROM THE BETAR NORTH AMERICA NEWSLETTER -- JUNE 1997

Sarah Niskin who has been leading Florida Betar for the past two years will
be leaving Miami to make Aliyah to Israel. North America Betar will really
miss her spirit, guidance and activism. We are very proud of her as she is
fulfilling the Zionist ideal taught to us in Betar. We wish her hatzlacha.
Sarah wrote a farewell letter to all Betar of North America.

Shalom Betarim,
Although I have not seen many of you for over a year, I have been
thinking about all of you and the future of Betar North America. We
Betarim have taken upon ourselves the honor of representing Jabotinsky's
movement and accordingly the responsibility of honoring the principals of
Betar. The Jewish people have been facing very trying times and consequently
Betar North America has suffered many hardships. Despite our being busy with
diaspora affairs we must never forget our responsibility to settle Eretz
Yisrael. One Biblical commentary compares Eretz Yisrael to a wedding band
which binds the Jewish people in a marriage to G-d. Our leader Ze'ev
Jabotinsky Z"L interminably stressed the need for us as Jews to "liquidate
the diaspora" before it would liquidate us. In addition, through "An Iron
Wall" Jabotinsky underscored the importance of having a Jewish majority in
our holy land in order to ensure Jewish sovereignty over her. We here in
North America have a unique responsibility to fulfill. As Betarim living
amongst the second largest population of Jews in the world we should all
work to promote not only Jewish pride and survival in the diaspora, rather,
we should promote creating homes in Israel; homes that will make our people
a "light unto the nations." We must persuade Jews to make Aliyah, and when
we have succeeded we will unite and fill all of Israel with life.
When I make Aliyah on July 2nd (B"H), aside from entering national
service in the Golan, I will begin working as Betar North America's Aliyah
coordinator. I hope that we will all achieve our goals of living in Israel
together very shortly. Someday, when we as a people regain our strength and
identity we will fulfill Jabotinsky's legacy for his people to settle on
both sides of the Jordan.

Tel Chai.
Sarah Niskin (Betar Miami)
