Leadership Architect © Assessment: Schedule a one-hour appointment with the Department of Student Life to complete the Leadership Assessment. This assessment is designed to help you explore and better understand your abilities and potential in relation to a wide variety of leadership competencies. Students must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing with the University.
Leadership Development Plan: Next, you’ll meet with a Leadership Advisor one-on-one to review the results of your assessment and develop a customized leadership development plan based on matching CSU leadership development opportunities with your leadership objectives and personal goals.
Leadership Theory Workshop & Reflection: Attend the Leadership Theory Workshop offered twice each semester to learn basic leadership theories and practical application. Then complete the Leadership Theory Reflection, a one-page reflection of your leadership style Review instructions .
Leadership Values Workshop & Reflection: Attend the Leadership Values Workshop offered twice each semester to learn basic leadership ethics and values. Then complete the Leadership Values Reflection, a one-page personal perspective on the value of leadership Review instructions .
Leadership Forum on Diversity: To live in today’s global society, it is vital to have a clear appreciation for and understanding of leadership in a diverse community. The Office of Institutional Diversity provides a fantastic primer to diversity through this three-hour workshop available three days each semester.
Volunteer Service: Servant Leadership, coined by Robert Greenleaf suggests that a conscious choice to serve brings one to aspire to lead. To apply for service hours, complete an Service Activity Form or hard copy available in the Department of Student Life, MC 106. You must provide a service agency contact person and phone number, as all service is verified.

What are the benefits of leadership certification?
Certification allows you to market yourself after CSU by developing your personal and career-oriented skills in leadership, ethics and values, team building, and more. It broadens your awareness of social issues through service learning and you will also begin to understand and respect the perspectives of others.
What do I have to do to become Leader Certified?
Think of ADS. First, Assessment: complete a Leadership Self-Assessment (1pt) then complete a Leadership Development Plan (1 pt) with a leadership advisor. Next, Development through workshops including Leadership Values (1pt), Leadership Theory (1pt), and Diversity Forum (3pts). Last, Service: complete 10 hours of service (10pts). You need a total of 17pts to achieve Leadership Certification. Just remember…Leadership Certification “ADS” great value to your CSU portfolio of accomplishments!
How long does Certification take?
Certification can be finished in a semester or throughout your time at CSU. It’s up to you. In May, we recognize students who have completed certification at the Awards & Recognition Ceremony.
How much does Certification cost?
If you are a CSU student, certification is already paid for through your general fees. So there’s no cost to you.
