The subject matter of Sociology includes a wide variety of topics including social inequality, deviant behavior, criminology, gender, race and ethnicity, mental illness, non-western societies, law, corrections, aging, sports, and interpersonal violence. Sociology majors develop research skills and the ability to understand and connect individual lives with wider social forces.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Internships: Sociology majors and minors who have completed required courses and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 may enroll in the Sociology Internship course. Student interns have been placed in various agencies in the criminal justice system including police departments, juvenile courts, and corrections facilities; non-profit organizations; and social service agencies. Internships have proved to be a good way for students to explore careers. Some have led to employment.
