Come join the Cleveland State Recreation Center as we show support for our troops during Pedal for Heroes.
Pedal for Heroes is a spin-a-thon that lasts 275 minutes – each minute representing an Ohio soldier killed in combat in the Middle East. Recreation Centers across Northeast Ohio will participate in the event on Sunday, Feb. 24.
This is the second year the Recreation Center is hosting Pedal for Heroes. The event will be held from 1-5:30 p.m. There is a $10 per hour donation, with all proceeds going toward Fisher House, a foundation that supports military veterans. Participants can ride for as long or short as they like. Water, fruit and small snacks will be available the day of the event.
Show your support for our troops! Sign up for Pedal for Heroes today at the Pro Shop inside the Recreation Center.

The CSU Rec Center hosted its fifth annual Rock the Rec on Wednesday, Sept. 5. Celebrating five years, the event attracted hundreds of students and community members to the Rec.
The entire facility was transformed for the night of the event. Free food was provided courtesy Jimmy John’s and Papa John’s, inflatable obstacle courses filled the basketball courts, and a DJ played hit songs that streamed throughout the facility. Students had the chance to take part in fitness class demos, such as Zumba and boxing, or get their photos taken and made into photo keychains.
The favorite activity of the night, however, appeared to be CSU’s version of “Minute to Win It.” Students competed in a variety of challenging games inspired by the hit TV show.
“There’s a lot of variety in the games,” said Johnale Simmons, a senior at CSU. “They test your agility, speed and endurance -- all the characteristics of being a very fit person.”
After a round robin session, the top 10 competitors took center stage and challenged each other during the tournament round. The top two winners would take home a grand prize of either an Apple iPad and Apple TV, or a Blu-Ray player and 32” TV.
Jillian Rothgery, a CSU freshman, came close to winning one of the prizes, but was knocked out during the last round and came in third place. “I had fun,” Rothgery said. “This was my first time here at this event.”
The lucky winner of the tournament was Justin Davis, a CSU freshman. He chose to take home the grand prize of the iPad and Apple TV. “I’m stoked!,” Davis shouted after accepting his prize. “I love this event.”
Other students also took home prizes. Students submitted raffle tickets throughout the night to win a variety of prizes, including Starbucks gift cards, tickets to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Pickwick & Frolic gift cards, Lake Erie Monsters tickets, iTunes gift cards, and more.
As the night winded down, students left the Rec with goodie bags, prizes and smiles on their faces.
