Do you think you have what it takes to become a group fitness instructor? If so, this program is for you! Group fitness is a rewarding career, but the process to become an instructor takes time, patience and commitment. We want the best instructors here at CSU, so through the F.I.T. program you will learn how to create innovative fitness classes to transform your desire to teach into the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to deliver a great class.
This eleven-week intensive program provides in-class theory aong with hands-on practical training. Participant will meet weekly in the CSU rec center to cover topics such as anatomy and phisiology, nutrition, safety, class formats and cueing. Training is accompanied by a mentorship program where each participant will work with a current instructor in one of their weekly classes.

The program will run throughout the fall semester, from Sep. 15 - Dec 6.
Week 1: Introduction to group fitness
Week 2: Cardiovascular exercise
Week 3: Muscle cueing and movement rehearsal
Week 4: Individual cardio demos
Week 5: Muscle structure and function
Week 6: Upper body muscles and strength moves
Week 7: Lower body muscles and strength moves
Week 8: Individual strength demos
Week 9: Form and safety
Week 10: CPR/AED certification
Week 11: Individual audition
In order to teach at the recreaton center, instructors must hold a national certification. This course prepares participants to take the exam necessary to acquire such a certification, along with gaining the practical and personal hands-on experiences of instruction. The fee for the program includes a full CPR/AED certification, as well as the ACE Group Fitess Instructor Exam, so no additional costs are required outside the registration fee to acquire all certifications necassary to teach.
