Traffic and Construction Updates

Construction of the new CSU Student Center continues into the summer of 2009.  Some of the lanes on East 22nd and East 21st street continue to be closed.

The East 25th drive into the East Garage and Mather Mansion area remains one way into the parking area. Vehicles exceeding 8 feet in height are prohibited from parking in the area.

Parking Lot Updates

Lot CC (Parking for Disabled)
Demolition of the Corlett Building is slated to start in July, 2009. CSU Parking Lot CC, adjacent to the Corlett Building, has been fenced off in anticipation of the demolition. Once demolition has started on the building, parking access to CSU Lot CC will be prevented for safety reasons. To accommodate the needs of persons with disabilities, additional disabled parking spaces, including Van Accessible spaces, are being added to CSU Lot S-3A located across Chester Avenue from Rhodes Tower. Once the demolition is complete, CSU Parking Lot CC will be reopened to CSU parkers.

Science Parking Garage
The upper and lower levels of the will be closed intermittently from Monday 8/17/09 to Thursday 8/20/09 so that maintenance can be performed in the area.

Lot S-1, S-2, Y
Will reopen to Daily Use tagholders on Monday 8/24/09. The lots will be staffed from 7 AM to 7 PM Monday through Thursday, 7 AM to 2:30 PM on Fridays, and other hours as required for special events. The daily usage parking fee will remain at $4 per day per vehicle.

South Garage (East 21st Street east of the Wolstein Center)
Effective Tuesday October 13, 2009, the CSU South Garage will open to all CSU Prepaid Parking Permit holders for daily use parking. An active, valid Viking Card is required to enter and exit the garage. Possession of a hang tag alone will not provide access. Prepaid Parking Permit holders may park in the facility during the operating hours of 6AM to midnight 7 days per week (with the exception of Special Event days).

The new facility is different from existing CSU parking garages in a few ways:

  • Viking Cards are required for automated access by prepaid permit holders. Your valid Viking Card will activate the gate arm upon entrance and exit.
  • The garage will be attended only on Special Event days.
  • The garage features green technology with solar panels installed to produce about 10% of the projected power needed in the garage.
  • For Visitors and Must Pay tag holders, the parking fee is $1 per hour (or fraction thereof) with daily maximum of $6. The fee is paid to automated equipment upon exit.

The following are specific instructions for prepaid CSU permit holders -- SWIPE IN. SWIPE OUT!

  1. When entering the facility, place the Viking Card in the card reader (black box) with the magnetic stripe facing up (as pictured on the reader). Cardholders will be required to swipe upon entrance and again upon exiting. Please note: Prepaid permit holders should not take a ticket upon entering the garage.
  2. It may take a moment for the gate to open after your Viking Card has been swiped in the card reader
  3. 24 Hour Exit: Cardholders may exit the facility after hours by swiping in the 24 hour exit lane. This lane is on the East 21st side of the garage (southbound only) and is the right most lane closest to the garage lobby. Both the parking gate and security gate raise once swiped. The gates close once the vehicle has exited.
  4. If your valid Viking Card does not work at the card reader, proceed to an alternate parking facility for the day and contact Parking immediately.

Other points of interest:
* Pedestrians may enter the facility after hours only through the lobby doors at the northwest corner of the garage.
* The CSU Must Pay parking program is not supported at the South Garage. Must Pay tag holders will be charged the Visitor rate.
