Student Parking Information

Annual Registration Required

Each year beginning in July and no later than the start of fall semester, you are required to register your vehicle with the Parking Services department, if you intend to park in any of the University's parking garages and lots. To register, you will need to have your VikingCard number, your vehicle license plate number, and your current class schedule. There is no fee to register. Upon such vehicle registration, you will receive a complimentary Must Pay parking tag - or you may purchase Pre Paid parking.

Must Pay Student parking

The complimentary Must Pay tag entitles you to purchase parking for the CSU rate in the parking facilities which accept Must Pay parking tags. Must Pay tag must be clearly displayed in vehicle when you purchase parking and park your vehicle.

Access available with Must Pay parking tag

Currently, the following facilities accept Must Pay holders from 7:00am. to 10:00pm, based upon availability:

  • Central Garage (CG) after 2pm
  • East Garage (EG)
  • Lot 41 (#41)
  • Lot G (#60) after 2pm
  • Lot HH (HH, #10)
  • Lot M (M, #50)
  • Lot S1 (S1, #54)
  • Lot S2 (S2, #51)
  • Lot Y (Y, #57)
  • South Garage - MustPay tag holders will be charged the Visitor rate $1 per hour (or fraction thereof) with daily maixmum of $6
  • West Garage (WG)

After 2:00pm, Monday-Friday, additional facilities are available to Must Pay tag holders, based upon availability: Central Garage (CG) and Lot G located under Main Classroom building (G, #60) see campus map

There is no overnight parking available to Must Pay tag holders. If overnight parking accommodations are required on occasion, consider the purchase of a Single Use, Any Day pass.

Must Pay payment options

Cash or a Ten Plus One coupon is accepted at the attendant booth for payment.

Ten Plus One Coupon booklets

Provide you with a discounted price on Must Pay parking. Coupon books available for advance purchase via campusnet or in the Parking Services Office.

Pre Paid Student parking

Some items may be purchased via campusnet. All items are available in the Parking Services Office. There are three options:

  1. Semester pass: Fall Semester or Spring Semester - access spans a single semester. This option is cost effective for individuals who intend to park on campus at least three (3) times per week. Effective dates are printed on the pass. Current price: $160 per semester.
  2. Single Use, Any Day pass: access for a single calendar day. Designed as a scratch off pass upon which the user identifies the calendar day for use. There is no expiration date for unused single use, any day passes.
    Current price: $6
  3. Summer Session: Access spans a specific period of instruction.
    The pricing method is consistent with a fall or spring semester pass.

Access available with Pre Paid Student parking tag

In addition to the lots which accept Must Pay tags, the following lots are available to Pre Paid student tag holders, based upon availability: Central Garage (CG), and South Garage (SG)West Garage (WG) see campus map

  • Under lease agreements with the private operators, Pre Paid parking tag holders may also use the Playhouse Square Garage at no additional charge, based upon availability. Individuals choosing to park in this private facilitiy are required to comply with all policies posted by the operator.
  • Pre Paid Student parking tag holders may enter a CSU parking facility which has a posted Special Event rate at no additional charge.
  • Pre Paid Student parking tag holders may park overnight on campus in the following location: East Garage (EG).

South Garage Parking

  • Prepaid Parking Permit holders may park in the facility during the operating hours of 6AM to midnight 7 days per week (with the exception of Special Event days).
  • Viking Cards are required for automated access by prepaid permit holders. Your valid Viking Card will activate the gate arm upon entrance and exit.
  • The garage will be attended only on Special Event days.
  • The garage features green technology with solar panels installed to produce about 10% of the projected power needed in the garage.

The following are specific instructions for prepaid CSU permit holders -- SWIPE IN. SWIPE OUT!

  1. When entering the facility, place the Viking Card in the card reader (black box) with the magnetic stripe facing up (as pictured on the reader). Cardholders will be required to swipe upon entrance and again upon exiting.
    Please note: Prepaid permit holders should not take a ticket upon entering the garage.
  2. It may take a moment for the gate to open after your Viking Card has been swiped in the card reader
  3. 24 Hour Exit: Cardholders may exit the facility after hours by swiping in the 24 hour exit lane. This lane is on the East 21st side of the garage (southbound only) and is the right most lane closest to the garage lobby.Both the parking gate and security gate raise once swiped. The gates close once the vehicle has exited.
  4. If your valid Viking Card does not work at the card reader, proceed to an alternate parking facility for the day and contact Parking immediately.
Additional Student Information

Escort Service

You are encouraged to use CSU escort service by calling 216.687.2020 from your cell phone or 2020 from a campus phone when traversing between parking and your campus destination.

College Based Arrangements

Parking Services has made arrangements with specific colleges or academic departments to address unique service situations.

  • College of Business: Accelerated MBA and Executive MBA students may contact the college's office for details.
  • College of Law: Recent graduates preparing for the Ohio Bar Exam may contact the college's office for details.

Dual Enrollment Consideration

A student who is enrolled at Youngstown State University, University of Akron, Kent State University or NEOCOM - and has a current student Pre Paid parking tag from that campus - is eligible for Pre Paid parking benefits at Cleveland State University. Visit the Parking Services department to claim a complimentary Y.A.C.K. sticker to affix to your campus parking tag. The same consideration is extended to CSU students with Pre Paid tags on the partner campuses

Residence Hall Parking

Residents of Fenn Tower and Viking Hall, who have purchased a Pre Paid Semester tag, are eligible to gain access to reserved parking in Lot A or Lot KK. Assignment of spaces is completed by a lottery system at the end of the spring semester for returning students and at the start of fall semester for incoming students. An individual granted reserved parking in these reserved lots is restricted to use of these lots at all times. A decision not to use the reserved lot will result in suspension or loss of access.

Returns and Refunds

Students are expected to return a Pre Paid or Must Pay parking tag immediately upon any halt in course attendance during the fall or spring semester. Upon return of a Pre Paid tag, a refund will be issued by University check based upon the refund schedule established by the Office of Treasury Services. However, a student with a medical withdrawal is granted a full refund.
