South Garage

Picture 2010-7-22 Bike rakes, garages 016.jpgThe South Garage (SG) is located east of the Wolstein Center on Prospect between E. 21st and E. 22nd (just south of the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Transit Center) . Entrances are off of East 21st (one way southbound) or Carnegie Avenue (westbound).

Exits are located on East 21st (one way southbound) and East 22nd (one way northbound).

The garage has four levels with 623 parking spaces and provides parking for CSU Prepaid parking patrons (faculty, staff, and students) and for daily use and campus visitors.

The SG is automated and has no parking attendant on site. On occasion, the SG may be unavailable for campus parking in order to provide for special event parking for the nearby Wolstein Center.

The SG has business hours of 5 AM to midnight 7 days per week. Overnight parking for resident students and visitors registered with Parking & Transportation Services is permitted.

Open Sign.JPG

LED signs posted at the lot entranced indicate the status of the parking facility:

  • OPEN means the facility is available for parkers.
  • CLOSED means the facility is not open for business operations and only parkers with special after hours access to the facility may enter the garage (via Carnegie entrance only).
  • FULL means the facility is at capacity and no additional visitor parkers are permitted to park. Each lane of traffic and device has an intercom built into it that allows for immediate contact for assistance.

Parking at SG for CSU Prepaid Parking Patrons (Card IN Card OUT)

No special pass is required to park at the SG other than a regular CSU Prepaid parking pass and a valid Viking Card. Viking Card numbers of prepaid parkers are automatically loaded into the parking control system when tags are purchased. Prepaid parkers do not need to request parking access to the SG. SG parking privileges are automatically programmed at the time the Prepaid tag is purchased.

Card Swipe.jpg

To enter the facility, Prepaid permit holders swipe their Viking Card (mag stripe up and in) at the card reader located in one of the facility entrances. Once swiped, the parker may enter the raised gate and proceed to park in the facility. To exit the facility, a Prepaid permit holder must swipe their Viking Card at the card swipe at one of the exit lanes of the parking facility. If the card is not swiped to enter the facility, it will not activate the gate to exit the facility. Card in Card out. Only one vehicle can be parked using a Prepaid permit holders card at a time.

After Hours Access and Egress

The SG has business hours of 5 AM to midnight 7 days per week. During non business hours, security gates are lowered over the entrances and exits. The only 24 hour entrance is the Carnegie entrance. Only resident students or parkers with SG Prepaid tags are permitted to enter the facility between the hours of midnight to 5 AM.
SG 24 Hour Exit sign.jpg
Any parker in the facility may exit facility at any time. When the security gates are lowered, parkers must use the 24 Hour Exit located on the East 21st Street. The lane is marked with a 24 Hour Exit sign. The security gate raises along with the parking gate once a valid Viking Card swipe or payment to the exit pay station is made. Once exited, only authorized overnight parkers (Resident students and SG tag holders) are able to reenter the facility during non business hours.

Daily Use/Visitor Parking Operations

The SG is designed to accommodate single day (visitor) parking. As the facility is automated, reserved parking for visitors is not feasible. Single day parking is on a first come, first served basis.

$2 for first hour - $1 per hour after. Max $10 per day. Day restarts at 12am

SG Ticket Spitter.jpgVisitors enter the facility by pressing the green button on the ticket dispenser located at one of the lot entrances. After pressing the green button, the parker takes the parking ticket and proceeds through the raised gate into the garage to park.

Pay to Exit

At the exit lane, the visitor inserts the ticket they pulled when entering into the Pay in PIL Device.jpgLane (PIL) device. An amount due shows in the window and payment is required. Payment methods are: cash (bills up top $20 denominations), credit card, (Visa or Mastercard, or bank debit card). Change dispensed for cash payments is made in $1 coin only. Once the fee is paid, the gate will raise.

Departments who wish to validate guest parking at the SG (or PG) may purchase pre validated parking tickets that can be inserted into machines instead of cash or credit card. Please contact Parking & Transportation Services for details.

When the SG is operated for special event parking (signs are posted), a flat parking fee is charged upon entrance and cash only is accepted for payment.
