VALIDATION OF THE SDS-17 MEASURE OF SOCIAL
DESIRABILITY
BIAS IN THE AMERICAN CONTEXT

In Germany, Stober and Colleagues (1999, 2001) presented evidence for the validity of the SDS-17, a new measure of “social desirability bias,” i.e. distorted self report of responses that present oneself in a socially attractive manner.  Measures of the magnitude of this bias may be dependent upon the cultural surrounding, however. Three experiments (n=800) assessed the SDS-17’s validity in the USA environment. In all conditions in all three studies, SDS-17 scores correlated highly with scores . . . . . . .

POSTER REQUIREMENTS AND PRINTING GUIDELINES:

College of Sciences and Health Professions Research Day participants are welcome to print their posters on the large format printer located in the Department of Biological, Geological & Environmental Sciences, Science Research Room G-76 (SR G-76).  There will be a sign-up sheet outside the lab for poster printing in the two weeks before Research Day: Monday, April 1 - Thursday, April 11.  Please sign up early and plan to print your posters early.  You can always print before April 1, but sign-up is required the two weeks prior to the event.

Please follow these guidelines for poster printing in SR G-76:

  1. Take your file on a flash drive or CD to the lab.  You can log on to the designated computer and use any program on the computer to print your poster.  (Open Office Draw or CorelDraw are commonly used, or just print a PDF file directly.)

  2. The printer is 42 inches wide.  One dimension of your poster must be 42 inches or less.  The typical poster size is 42” x 48”.  The maximum size of posters for Research Day is 42” x 72”.  The poster display panels will not accommodate larger posters.

  3. You should allow at least 15 minutes for your poster to print.  If you make an appointment, please be prompt so that others can use the lab most efficiently.  The wait gets MUCH LONGER  during the last few days!

  4. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CHANGE EITHER PAPER OR INK!
Let Dr. Clapham (or Monica Warner in SI 219) know when paper or ink is low, or if you experience any other problems.  Dr. Clapham’s office is G-70 and lab is G-71.  His email address is w.clapham@csuohio.edu.

Some instructions for printing a poster can be found at www.bges.csuohio.edu/poster.pdf
Past experience has shown that posters created using PowerPoint often have problems that are not evident until printed.  To avoid this, save your document as a PDF in your office software or in Adobe Acrobat or using one of the free downloadable PDF converters available.  One such software is found at: http://www.dopdf.com/ .  Follow the instructions for converting to PDF.

NOTE: The printer will be loaded with bond (not glossy) paper for Research Day posters.  If anyone wants to use his or her poster at a conference after Research Day (when you may receive useful feedback), it may be printed on glossy paper later.
