First Data Analytics Showcase a Success

CSU mathematics majors, statistics minors and graduate students together with data professionals from around Northeast Ohio participated in the College’s first Data Analytics Showcase on December 1, 2017.

Students presented their research to representatives from local companies who rely on data science, including Sherwin-Williams, Cuyahoga County Planning Commission, American Greetings, National Interstate Insurance, Oswald Companies, The J.M. Smucker Company, Forest City Enterprises, The Lubrizol Corporation, JumpStart and DataPharm.

The Showcase is the culmination of a year-long planning process and collaboration between the College Visiting Committee, the Statistics Consulting Group in the Department of Mathematics and CSU Career Services to expand opportunities for students to learn and apply concrete skills in statistics. Internships, undergraduate research experiences, networking events and hackathons such as the annual DataFest at CSU sponsored by the American Statistical Association connect our students with real-world research teams and data managed by hospitals, research centers, government agencies and community-based organizations in Cleveland and around the world.
