The M.A. program is designed specifically for high school mathematics teachers who wish to enhance their mathematical and technological knowledge. Courses in the program have been designed with the NCTM Standards in mind as well as from the standpoint of infusing modern technology into the classroom.
Students will find courses which use everything from graphing calculators to computer algebra systems (e.g. Maple) to statistical software (e.g. SAS, SPSS, Minitab) to the Internet. The M.A. Program is offered almost exclusively in the Summer to accommodate teachers, but students wishing to can take approved M.S. courses during the school year which may be substituted for certain M.A. courses.
Applicants are expected to possess an undergraduate background consistent with being a high school mathematics teacher (e.g. the current mathematics requirements for an Ohio teaching certificate), but even lacking such a background, a person may, for instance, enter the program by starting as a non-degree student and achieving a grade of B or better in 3 approved graduate classes.
