1. If you struggle with Biology, take a 100 level biology class or A& P I and II before taking BIO 200/201 so that you will be better prepared.  BIO 200/201 is a very difficult course. 

2. If sciences are difficult for you:  avoid taking any biology, chemistry, physics course in a six week term.  Also take only one science course per term to begin with.  Once your confidence grows and your performance in the sciences improves, take a maximum of 2 science courses in one term.

3. Course sequences are important as one course helps prepare you for the next.  In Health Sciences, you need to take courses in the following order:

• Take Bio 200/201  FIRST BEFORE ANY OTHER science-based HSC course.
• Take HSC 422 Physiology  BEFORE HSC 381 Pathology or HSC 476/478 Neuroscience
• Take HSC 422 Physiology and HSC 381 Pathology BEFORE Pharmacology
• NEVER take HSC 475/457 Gross Anatomy and HSC 476/478 Neuroscience the same term.

4. Culture and Health should be taken during the junior or senior year

5. Take Statistics BEFORE taking HSC 484 Advanced Research and Writing

6. We offer a few options for writing across the curriculum (WAC):

• Take HSC 483 Writing in Health Sciences at the same time as taking another HSC course.  You will write a special topics paper and receive WAC credit.
• Take HSC 484:  Research and Writing in Health Sciences – this is an approved WAC course.
• Take the Upper Division Honor’s Program and complete 2 WAC courses in the process:  HSC 484 (WAC), HSC 438 and 439 (WAC approval pending).  To do the Honor’s Program, you need an overall GPA of 3.5 to apply for acceptance into the program.
