Prerequisite Courses

Please download the following equivalencies chart for a list of pre-requisites accepted from other universities.

The following courses must be completed with a "C" or better for eligibility to the Occupational Therapy Program. It is the applicant's responsibility to be aware of and take any prerequisites for any of the courses listed below.

Natural Sciences:

Two of these must be completed by the March 15 application deadline. All must be completed before admission.

  • Pathology (CSU - HSC 381 or equivalent)
    Introduction to medical diagnosis and treatment covering basic concepts and nomenclature of pathology, major diseases of the systems of the body, epidemiology, biopsychosocial concepts, pharmacology, infectious disease, cellular injury and tissue repair, neoplasia, genetic disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, nervous system disorders, and psychiatric disorders.
  • Physiology with lab (CSU -HSC 422, BIO 422/423 or equivalent)
    This must be an upper division course, i.e. a junior (300) or senior (400) level course. Human or vertebrate physiology are preferred.
  • Human Anatomy with lab (CSU - HSC 475 or equivalent)
    This course needs to be an upper division course (300-400 level). Human cadaver prosection or dissection is recommended.
  • Neurosciences with lab (CSU - HSC 476 or equivalent)
    Study of the structure and function of the human central and peripheral nervous systems including vascular components and special senses. Laboratory sessions may include human nervous system material in the course atlas, human brain dissections, slides, overheads, and anatomical models.

Social Sciences:

  • Lifespan (CSU - PSY 223 or equivalent)
    Examination of human development; content covering from infancy through old age preferred.
  • Abnormal Psychology (CSU - PSY 345 or equivalent)
    Survey of major psychological disorders and their classification, etiology, and management.
  • Social Science Statistics (CSU - PSY 311 or equivalent)
    Content should include measures of central tendency, correlations, t-tests, analysis of variance, non-parametric statistics, application of descriptive and inferential statistics to the analysis and interpretation of data in the social sciences, and hypothesis testing.

Medical Terminology - Evidence of completion of medical terminology course or self-study.
