Typically meetings will be at the
Brecksville or Independence Libraries.
Grand Assembly of Kits - Saturday Sept. 20, 2008 between 9am-? (We're usually here until 4-5pm)
Help us count, measure, and assemble all of the necessary materials required for the demonstration kits that will be used for our hands-on programs at library, schools, and other locations. Activities include labeling bags and cups, counting out materials, and filling boxes. Breakfast snacks, beverages, and pizza lunch will be provided. You don't have to stay the whole day; please contribute whatever time you can spare! Many hands make light work!
When: Between 10am and 4pm (or until we finish). You can just show up for an hour or so or sign up for a shift from 10am-1pm, 1pm-4pm, or 10am-4pm. Pizza lunch at ~ 12:45pm. Working in shifts will allow us to coordinate our volunteers' time more usefully. Contact Kat at katkat@neo.rr.com to sign up for a shift or to express interest in helping otherwise.
Time Commitment: from 1 hour to all day.

Demonstration Dress Rehearsal - - Saturday Oct. 4, 2008 at 10am
What: Practice session and kit pick-up for demonstration program volunteers. Organizers arrive at 8:30 am. Program demonstrators arrive at 10am.
WhenTime commitment: ~1.5-2 hours.
Where: John Carroll University. See GAK info above for location, driving directions and maps.
Library Demonstrations - during National Chemistry Week
What:
- perform a demonstration(s) on your own using our comprehensive script…or…
- assist our other demonstrators at his/her/their demonstration(s)
- demonstration kit provided (with materials for 7-9 experiments for up to 30
children ages 7-10)
- goggles provided (to be returned through interlibrary mail)
- very detailed script provided to walk you through the entire program (set up
to clean up) - see link to script on our Main page
- optional Dress Rehearsal where you see all the experiments and learn tips for
presenting.
When: Dates and times vary; please see schedule.
Time commitment: 1-hr program + 1-hr set-up + ½-hr cleanup + optional prep time + optional 1.5 hours/rehearsal on Oct. 6.
Where: All Cuyahoga County Public Library branches and other locations.
Cleveland Regional Council of Science Teachers (CRCST) Fall Conference - Saturday, October 11
What:
- 2 ~45min instructional programs for teachers – nearly identical to library
demo program
- organization of room and materials for demonstrations
- distribution of 40 demo kits to teachers and teacher coordinators
- monitor information table and distribute literature
- tentatively to be held at the Natural History Museum
Time commitment: Approx 7am – 2pm and maybe time to assist in transporting demo kits.
Where: Location for 2008: Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
Volunteer Opportunities:
