Welcome to the Cleveland State University College of Science. The second largest of the University's seven colleges, the College of Science enrolls more than 2,000 students and more than 100 full-time faculty. The College has six departments: Biological, Geological, and Environmental Sciences; Chemistry; Health Sciences; Mathematics; Physics; and Psychology. The College also has a wide variety of academic programs including Ph.D. programs in Regulatory Biology and in Clinical Bioanalytical Chemistry. These two programs are in collaboration with the Lerner Research Institute at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. A newly approved Ph.D. in Adult Development and Aging is joint with the University of Akron. We also have a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. The College has 14 master's programs, and sixteen undergraduate programs focused on education future researchers in both basic and applied science and health, clinicians in an array of health and social service professions, and teachers in mathematics and science.

Our faculty are deeply committed to teaching, scholarship, and community service. They have written world-renowned textbooks, published scholarly papers in high quality research journals, secured funding from such agencies as the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the American Heart Association, and many others. They work collaboratively with businesses and agencies throughout Northeast Ohio and nationally.

Perhaps most important from the perspective of students, the College of Science believes strongly in engaged learning. Faculty have created a wide array of opportunities for hands-on learning experiences. These occur not only in research labs, where both undergraduate and graduate students participate in the discovery process, but also in the community where students participate in service learning, cooperative education, internships, and research focused on solving community problems.

Faculty recognize, as well, that learners at different stages in the educational process have different needs and interests. First time university students will find a supportive environment in which to develop their intellectual interests. Transfer and graduate students will find a wide array of programs to meet their educational goals. And adult learners will feel welcome as they pursue new areas of study or advanced study in their fields.

The College strives to identify emerging areas of study and research, and to create new programs for individuals in Northeast Ohio and elsewhere seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills. Recent additions include a physician assistant program in collaboration with Cuyahoga Community College, a certificate in forensic chemistry, and newly reconfigured undergraduate and graduate certificates in gerontology.
