Office of Technology Transfer

About Us

OUR MISSION

The Technology Transfer Office is responsible for managing the intellectual properties of Cleveland State University. TTO's mission is to facilitate the commercialization of the University's scientific and technical research findings for the benefit of the citizens of Ohio and the general public through the efficient and effective evaluation, management, protection and licensing of the University's intellectual property.

OUR GOALS

In support of its mission, the Technology Transfer Office primary goals are:

  1. Develop an effective and efficient technology transfer and commercialization program and assess documents and communicate the full value of technology commercialization activities
  2. Enhance the University's research environment by encouraging and assisting faculty members, staff and students to consider alternate applications of technology developed as part of their research and to protect the University's intellectual property
  3. Generate revenue for Cleveland State University, from public and private sources, by utilizing various technology licensing and research funding strategies
  4. Promote economic growth in the region and the State of Ohio by facilitating collaborations and establishing lasting business relations with the public and private sectors
  5. Ensure public benefit from Cleveland State University research and applied technologies.

OUR FOCUS

While the primary focus of the Cleveland State University faculty is teaching, research, and other scholarly activities, often the products of scholarship have application as products or services beyond the gates of the university. Through the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), which is apart of Cleveland State University’s Sponsored Programs and Research (OSPR) department TTO facilitates the transfer of university developed technologies to the marketplace by protecting the intellectual property through patents and copyright and subsequently licensing the protected intellectual property to companies outside the university. THE TTO WILL EVALUATE THE TECHNOLOGY, SECURE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION, FIND A COMPANY TO DEVELOP AND SELL THE PRODUCT, AND NEGOTIATE THE LICENSE AGREEMENT.
