The Provost's Pages

The Provost is the Chief Academic Officer of the University who is responsible for all academic related affairs.  This includes the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science, James J. Nance College of Business Administration, College of Education and Human Services, Fenn College of Engineering, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, Graduate College and the Division of Continuing Education.  Each college offers its academic programs that lead to Bachelor, Masters, J.D. and Ph.D. degrees.  The Provost is also responsible for academic supporting matters such as Library; faculty recruitment and retention, promotion and tenure, salary adjustment, awards and professional leave; international student services and study abroad; Office of Research; Center for Teaching and Learning; Instructional Media Services; Institutional Research, Outcome Assessment and Strategic Planning; academic web site; Writing Center; Honors Programs; programs at extended campuses; and Enrollment Services which include recruitment and admissions, registration and academic records, financial aid, and one-stop student services.

The Provost reports to the President and works with other Vice Presidents and University Legal Counsel on budget, facilities, student affairs, human resources, development, university relations, legal issues and information technology. There are nine Deans, four Vice Provosts, and four Directors reporting to the Provost. There are about 550 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty, 600 part-time faculty and 600 staff in the academic areas. Cleveland State University has about 16,000 students and awards more than 3,000 degrees each year from 117 programs. Annual operation budget for academic areas is more than $120 million and research grants and contracts produce over $25 million expenditures per year.
