Identity Theft
Prevention Tips |
| |
| |
1. |
Have your initials (instead of first name)
printed on checks. If someone takes your check book they will not
know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name but
your bank will know how you sign your checks. |
| |
| |
2. |
Never have your Social Security number printed
on checks. If you have it printed, anyone can get it. |
| |
| |
3.
Photocopy the contents of your wallet. You will know what you had in your wallet and
all the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the
photocopy in a safe place. |
| |
| |
4.
Notify your bank that you do not want your
personal information shared with marketing firms. |
| |
| |
5. |
Call a single telephone number, 1-888-5OPTOUT,
to inform all the major credit reporting bureaus of your preference to opt
out of having your personal information shared with companies that want to
market services to you. |
| |
| |
6. |
Destroy or shred any of your credit card
mailings or other documents containing personal information before
discarding them. |
