Emergency Phones |
|
|
|
|
|
Emergency Blue Light phones are strategically located
throughout the exterior areas of the campus and in parking facilities.
Upon picking up the receiver or pushing the button, you will be in immediate contact with a
Dispatcher at CSU Police Headquarters. Each time an
emergency phone is activated, an officer is sent to investigate. A map
of all emergency phones is located at
http://emphones.
To
report an emergency inside University buildings, use a Campus Dial phone,
and dial 911.
The CSU Police Department phone number is programmed into all Digital
Telephones installed on campus. This feature provides speed
dialing to the Police Department when the designated button labeled
"POLICE" is pushed.
In an EMERGENCY, you can:
1. Pick up your telephone;
2. Press the "POLICE" button;
3. Give the police dispatcher time to pick up;
4. Give the police dispatcher your location and describe your
emergency.
Or, if you have a SPEAKERPHONE, there is an audible way to use the
"POLICE" button without lifting the receiver off its cradle:
1. Push your extension button;
2. Push the "POLICE" emergency button without picking up the
phone. (This puts the phone in speaker mode -- the dial tone and ringing
will be audible).
3. The ringing will continue until the dispatcher responds.
Please use the campus phones and emergency phones to report suspicious
activity, crimes in progress, and fire or medical emergencies. |

Building Security |
|
|
|
|
|
All University buildings are posted with the open hours on the entrance
doors. Generally, buildings are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday -
Saturday and are closed Sunday. Specific areas, such as the
Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, have extended hours as needs dictate.
When buildings are locked, only authorized personnel are granted access.
Access to Closed University Buildings
Access to closed buildings will not be provided for students, staff, or
other designees unless the "Semester Only" Special Admittance to
University Buildings form is completed and on file in the Police
Dispatch office. This form is used when a faculty member may wish
to have his or her designees allowed entry in a University building
during the hours or days that a building is closed. This form
refers only to exterior building doors. The form may be faxed to
you, a faculty member, or administrator, by contacting Kathleen Engel at
ext. 4349. Please direct any
questions about the form to Kathleen at ext. 4349, or e-mail
k.a.engel@csuohio.edu.
Viking Hall / Fenn Tower
The residence halls have controlled access through an
electronic building security system which utilizes magnetically locked
perimeter doors that are released automatically in the event of a fire.
The main doors, which are monitored 24 hours a day by student personnel,
are the only means of entrance and egress. Access to residence
halls is
restricted to student occupants, escorted guests, and authorized
personnel.

Safety Tips |
|
|
|
|
|
Opportunity
theft is the most frequently occurring crime on campus. Leaving
books, purses, and other property unattended -- even for a few seconds
-- provides the thief with a golden opportunity to take your valuables.
For your own protection, keep your property under your control at all
times.
By being alert at all times, you can help keep our campus secure for
everyone. Follow these tips:
- Always be aware of people around you
- Alert someone to your presence on campus after hours
- Buddy up -- try not to be alone after hours
- Use well-lit public walkways
- Keep doors locked
- Lock your car and keep all valuables hidden
- Check e-mail for campus alerts
- Know the locations of telephones and campus emergency phones
- Report suspicious activities by strangers

|
|
|
|
The Community Police Response Programs (CPRP) is
the CSU Police Departments link to the community. Police Officers
taking part in CPRP work closely with Campus Watch and other groups and
organizations on and off campus. CPRP officers provide security
surveys, crime awareness presentations, and vehicle number etchings to deter
auto theft. Together with the CSU community, CPRP helps recognize,
report, and deter crime. For more information contact Sgt. Secor - E-Mail:

Drug & Alcohol Abuse Prevention |
|
|
|
|
|
Cleveland State University is committed to a
campus free of unlawful drug and alcohol use. The misuse of alcohol
detracts from the mission of higher education and adversely affects the
conduct, academic performance, health, and safety of students. Alcohol
on college campuses is a factor in 40 percent of all academic problems and
28 percent of all dropouts. Information about Cleveland State
University's Drug Abuse Prevention Program is distributed to all CSU
students and employees, as required by the Federal Drug-Free School and
Communities Act Amendments of 1989. |

Rape & Sexual Assault Prevention |
|
|
|
|
|
The responsibility for continuing education about rape and other sex
offenses and their prevention is assumed by the
Health and
Wellness Services. This includes presentations of educational
programs about rape and other sex offenses to the University community at
large, as well as selected classes and targeted student populations such as
athletes, residence hall advisors, and new students. The education
program has and will continue to include the campus-wide distribution of
information about rape and other sex offenses in the form of brochures,
flyers, and posters. In addition, professionals in the
Department
of Student Life,
Counseling
Center,
Health Services,
and Police Department are available to meet one-on-one with members of the
University community to discuss issues surrounding rape and sexual
assault prevention.
Photographs of registered sexual offenders can be found at the
Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Web Site:
www.cuyahogacounty.us/sheriff/sou/sou.htm. For more information
about registered sexual offenders in the State of Ohio, visit the
Electronic Sex Offender Registration & Notification (eSORN) Web Site.
