CSU Implements 911 Public Safety Answering Point

Cleveland State University has implemented 911 service on the main campus for any emergency:  Police, Fire, Medical, or Hazmat Spills.

CSU Safety Forces can now be reached by calling 9-1-1 or 8,
9-1-1 from any campus telephone.  Cell phone users can also use the 911 service – just tell the operator to connect you to CSU Police.  The campus Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) will coordinate any emergency response on campus.

The enhanced on-campus service will also allow the campus PSAP operators to view the location of the on-campus call.  This added feature will allow for a more precise dispatch of essential services, even in cases where the caller may be medically unable to provide precise information on his or her location.  This enhancement will be added to the campus telephone system over the next few months.

While the current 2111 number will remain active for a period of time, all emergency callers are encouraged to use the 911 service.  As always, requests for non-emergency services should be directed to University Police at 687-2020 or e-Mail at police@csuohio.edu.

Over the next few months you will notice a change to the display on your campus NEC telephone when you receive calls from other campus telephones.  The telephone will now display the extension of the caller and the location of the telephone.  The phone location identifier will identify the building, floor and office or suite where the phone is located (example: RT-10-1002).  This enhancement will support the Campus 911 System allowing the Safety forces to know the location of the caller for more precise coordination of emergency response on campus.  Should you have any questions concerning this matter, please feel free to contact IS&T, Telecommunications x3881 or e-Mail telecom@csuohio.edu.
