Law Enforcement Officer |
|
|
|
|
Passes an initial written Civil Service exam.
Passes additional screening exams including physical agility, psychological,
and background checks. Attends an accredited police academy to receive
Ohio peace officer basic training. Passes state of Ohio certification
examination. Takes part in on-the-job training under the guidance of a
training officer. Satisfies a one-year probation period.
Performs a variety of tasks related to campus security and other duties as
assigned.

Security Officer |
|

|
Security
Officers provide safety escort services, prepare reports, and document
incidents. Other duties may include securing buildings, monitoring
intrusion detection equipment, assisting with dispatch operations and
investigating crimes, complaints, and accidents.

Dispatcher |
|
|
|
|
Police dispatchers serve an integral function on the department. They
act as the focal point for most radio and telephone communications for the
police department, including all requests for police, fire, and medical
emergencies on campus. Additionally, they provide both radio and
telephone communications for Plant Services employees during non-business
hours. All police dispatchers are required to receive and retain
qualification in the operation of the LEADS/NCIC computer terminals.
They maintain both written and computerized logs, monitor alarm and video
surveillance systems, and act as one of several information and general aid
sources for both the campus community and the general public.
Applicants must successfully complete a selection process that includes a
classified civil service examination.

Student Community Service Officer |
|
|
|
|
Student Community Service Officers perform a vital function in augmenting
certain non-emergency functions of the police department. They provide
safety escorts for individuals within the campus area, report unsafe
conditions, and provide access to certain University facilities.
Student Community Service Officers can be assigned to both stationary and
roving posts.

Support Staff |
|
|
|
|
The support staff provides an important service by providing secretarial,
clerical, and records management functions for the department. These
functions allow the efficient assignment of sworn officers to patrol and
investigation duties. Most support staff positions require that
applicants successfully pass a process that includes a classified
civil service examination.
