The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is offered under the auspices of the College Board. The examinations are administered through Cleveland State's Testing Center. Students seeking credit through CLEP after completing Cleveland State or other college-level work are cautioned to determine in advance with an academic adviser whether such credit will duplicate that already earned. Transfer students who have received credit through CLEP at another institution should have the official score report sent to the Office of the University Registrar for evaluation. Testing time for each objective test is 90 minutes. The test fee is $80.00 per examination paid on the day of testing using a credit card or check (made payable to CLEP), plus a $30.00 NON-REFUNDABLE, NON-TRANSFERABLE service fee per examination (cash, check or money order; payable to CSU) submitted with your Registration Form. A booklet which describes the examinations and supplies sample questions “Guide to the CLEP Examinations” is available from the CLEP program, most major bookstores and some public libraries, including the CSU bookstore. If you have any questions about the registration process or about special arrangements for testing students with a disability, call Testing Services, (216)687-2272. Additional information and sample tests can be found at http://clep.collegeboard.org/

Who is eligible to take the CLEP and receive credit?
Any freshman, sophomore, or junior year student who feels he/she can qualify for credit, and who does not already have credit for the class, may take the CLEP. The intent of the CSU policy is to offer credit to students who have not yet enrolled or who have not completed the credits for the freshman year. CSU students should talk with an academic advisor before arranging to take the test. Credit is not available to senior year students without approval from their academic advisor or students who have already earned course credit in the areas covered by a CLEP..
What procedures are followed for granting credit?
You should indicate on the test registration form that you wish for a copy of your scores to be sent to CSU. The Registrars Office will notify you by mail of the amount of credit granted after receiving an official score report from the College Board. Questions regarding the use of CLEP credit for degree requirements should be directed to your academic advisor.
