The Faculty Senate Undergraduate Student Success Committee has strongly recommended more professional development opportunities for faculty in the area of classroom instruction, with a focus on first year students.

The goals of this ½ day event was to understand the difficulty many first generation low income students have in navigating the new university culture, and to consider teaching and advising strategies to assist with this transition.
Arleen Arnsparger, key note speaker, will structure her presentation around video clips of students, who were interviewed at the end of high school and then during freshmen year. The student's stories are compelling and suggest approaches to teaching and advising.
